Red flags — web design agencies to avoid

Web design has unique failure modes because the technical decisions made at build time cascade for years. Watch for these specifically when evaluating any Dublin web design agency. (For our take on a clean diagnostic process, see our 4-stage SEO process.)

  • Building on Elementor or Divi — these page builders ship 800kb of CSS and stack 5–10 nested divs around every element. Lighthouse score of 28 on mobile is the norm. Fast Astro / Tailwind builds are 1/10th the size and pass Core Web Vitals on day one.
  • No Core Web Vitals commitment — if the agency won't commit to LCP under 2.5s, INP under 200ms, CLS under 0.1 on launch, they're shipping a slow site by accident.
  • No SEO foundation in the build — schema, sitemap, canonical logic, OG tags, semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy. These should be standard on day one, not "added later" for €500.
  • "We'll just use a template" — themes and templates ship with junk you don't need and locked-in dependencies. Real agencies build from clean foundations.
  • No migration audit before rebuild — a rebuild with no URL parity audit destroys SEO equity. Real agencies map every existing URL 1:1 before launch.
  • Site itself is dated or slow — ironic but common. If the agency's own site fails Lighthouse, what they build for clients will too. Test their site first.
  • Hosting handed off to a random shared cPanel — slow TTFB, no CDN, no DDoS protection, frequent downtime. Modern agencies use Cloudflare Pages / Workers / Vercel / Netlify by default.

How much should web design in Dublin cost?

Honest 2026 ranges, based on what Dublin-based agencies actually charge. To validate where you'd start, get a free AI Search Snapshot first — includes a build-quality assessment and Core Web Vitals score.

  • Single landing page: €1,497–€3,000 — single-page conversion site, audit form, schema, OG tags, hosting included Year 1. Webjuice's landing page builds sit here.
  • Small business site (5–10 pages): €3,000–€7,000 — service business site with home, about, services, contact, case studies, blog index.
  • Full website (10–25 pages): €4,497–€14,997 — multi-service site with deep service pages, location pages, case studies, blog migration. Most Webjuice full builds are here.
  • E-commerce store (small to mid): €4,997–€19,997 — Shopify, WooCommerce, or headless commerce with product schema, faceted-search rules, and category architecture. See e-commerce SEO.
  • Enterprise / multi-region: €24,997+ — multi-region hreflang, multi-language, complex CMS integrations, multi-team handoffs.
  • Replatform / migration: €4,997–€24,997 — WordPress → Astro, Shopify ↔ Magento, domain migrations with URL parity, schema preservation, cut-over monitoring.
  • Ongoing hosting + maintenance: €0/year (Cloudflare free tier) to €100–€500/month for managed updates + monitoring.

Below €1,497 you're getting a template build with no senior involvement. Quality starts at €1,497 for a landing page with proper foundations. For technical-heavy migrations or e-commerce, expect €4,997+ with senior architecture decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you build on WordPress?

We can — but we don't recommend it for most modern projects. WordPress has performance, security, and maintenance overhead that's hard to justify when modern static-first stacks (Astro, Next, Hugo) deliver better Core Web Vitals, simpler hosting, and lower long-term costs. For content-heavy publishing where you genuinely need WordPress's editor ecosystem, we'll build it. For most service businesses and e-commerce, Astro is the better answer.

What's wrong with Elementor or Divi?

They wrap every element in 5–10 nested divs, ship 800kb of CSS, run JS that kills INP, and produce HTML that's hard to crawl and hard to optimise. The design preview looks fine. The Lighthouse score is 28. We've had to rebuild dozens of Elementor sites — the visual design migrates in days, the performance gains compound forever.

How long does a build take?

Landing page: 2–3 weeks. Full website (10–25 pages): 6–10 weeks. Replatform: scoped per project, usually 8–14 weeks. We don't rush — but we don't pad either.

Do you handle hosting?

Yes — Cloudflare Pages or Workers, included for the first year on every build. Static sites are free to host on Cloudflare's free tier and scale globally for nothing. After year one you can keep us managing it or take it over yourself — the build is yours.

Can I edit content myself after launch?

Yes. We can wire a headless CMS (Sanity, Contentful, Decap, or others) where ongoing content editing is required. For sites where content changes a few times a year, we usually skip the CMS overhead — you tell us what to change and we ship it the same day.

What about migrating from my current site?

We migrate every URL 1:1, write the redirect map, monitor through cut-over, and follow up at 30/60/90 days post-launch. Migrations are where most rebuilds destroy SEO equity — we treat them as their own engineering work stream.

Will my site rank better after the rebuild?

Almost always — assuming the migration is done properly. Faster sites (passing Core Web Vitals) outrank slow ones for competitive queries. Cleaner schema and semantic HTML compound that. The Webjuice site you're reading was rebuilt this way; most of our service pages climbed positions inside 30 days post-launch.

Where can I get a free site review?

Webjuice offers one — yours to keep regardless of next steps. Request the audit here. Most agencies in this comparison will run a free initial review. A 30-minute call should at minimum tell you your Core Web Vitals score, whether your build foundation is salvageable, and what would have the most leverage to rebuild vs fix-in-place.

Where can I find these agencies online?

Each agency's website is linked below for reference. All external links are nofollow — we don't pass ranking equity to competitors, but we do credit them for inclusion.

How was this list compiled?

The shortlist matches the top organic results for "web design agency dublin" in Ireland (DataForSEO SERP, April 2026), filtered to Dublin-based agencies with verifiable trading history. Each agency's homepage was scraped for content (Firecrawl) and screenshotted at 1440×900. Star ratings reflect Webjuice's editorial assessment against the five criteria — agencies are welcome to dispute any rating with evidence.
